So as the big, mock-antique clock strikes eight I finish the last of my Guinness and step out of Ireland and into the cold April rain of a South London night. It is already dark, and the darkness seems to be seeping through my jacket, soaking into me with the rain.

It was shortlisted for the prestigious Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger Award in 2006.
A small independent publisher, PaperBooks, has been threatening to publish it since October 2006, but so far these have been nothing more than idle threats . . .
